Ex Online Gambling Exec Freed in New York
06, October 2006
Peter Dicks, former SportingBet.com chairman, was back in Queens, New York to face extradition to Louisiana. But the lately unlucky executive finally caught a break as Governor George Pataki said that he would not enforce Dicks' extradition to Louisiana.
Dicks was arrested in New York in September on a warrant issued by the State of Louisiana for breaking an obscure law against taking bets over the phone. Pataki's stance on the extradition issue is that online gambling is not against the law in the state of New York. So he has no power to extradite Dicks to Louisiana when no law was broken in New York.
Since the Charges were dropped in New York, Dicks is a free man - in New York. Dicks and attorney are still working on being cleared in Louisiana.
