Pennsylvania City Plans for Casino Repercussions
13, August 2006
When many people in the city of Bethlehem consider what it means to have a casino where their old steel plant used to be, they are concerned that it will be a draw for other businesses such as pawn shops and strip clubs that would be replacing the boutiques and shops that they had hoped to find in that area. The casino, which is promising an $879 million redevelopment at the old steel plant, covering 120 acres, would also put in a movie theater, shops, and a restaurant across 56 of those acres near the Minsi Trail Bridge.
Despite this, the concerns remain, and city legislators and planners are drawing up legislation to regulate the potential types of businesses that could appear after the casino is built.
