Oneida Casino and Oneida Nation Not the Same
23, July 2006
Taking advantage of Native American gambling law, the Northeast Wisconsin Native American tribe of the Oneida Nation finds an operating budget of over $400 million primarily through the running of the Oneida Casino. While it does a lot for the Oneida Nation, it has also done a lot to blur the line between the business and the people. Most residents of Northeast Wisconsin automatically link the term Oneida lease on the casino, not the people.
By getting out the tribal newsletter and pushing a new advertising campaign that focuses on it as a public awareness, the Oneida Nation hopes to recover some of the public identity lost in the wake of casino operations.
