Guam Governor Gives Gambling a No
20, June 2006
Gov. Felix Camacho had made his stance clear on gambling at this year's Liberation Day carnival, and his stance was "yes." Recently the good governor reversed his decision, denying gambling at the carnival after all. Gambling had been banned from the carnival for the past three years but was to be allowed because it would raise money for the new Guam museum, the Angle Santos Memorial Park and the Guam Baseball Federation. In addition the carnival could turn a profit with gambling, with the proceeds going to benefit public school students in the form of textbooks.
The governor might have discussed it with various persons who convinced him that casino gambling was too controversial, and the carnival would have find other ways to raise money.
