Third Attempt at Floating Gabling Barge May Have Chance
11, June 2006
This is the third time that the idea of putting a gambling barge in the waters of Clark and Jeffersonville counties has been put out there, and Jeffersonville councilman John Perkins hopes the third time is the charm. He has seen millions go into Harrison County in the form of infrastructure and roads, and nothing in the form of negative impacts of having gambling. Despite having failed twice before, Perkins is hopeful that this time the idea of riverboat gambling will float with voters.
In 1995 the idea sank by 2,300 votes, and in 1993 it sank by 2,500. Perkins has begun a petition signing campaign in hopes of getting the 463 signature needed to get the proposal put on the ballot in November of this year.
