Tropicana Casinos Sold

23, May 2006

Atlantic City and Las Vegas are both home to Tropicana casinos, currently owned by Aztar Corp. Recent news has been released that Aztar Corporation has agreed to be purchased for $2.01 billion by the Kentucky-based Columbia Sussex Corp. In addition to the Tropicana casinos, Casino Aztar will also be up for grabs to Columbia, giving them a gambling foothold in Missouri that they previously were unable to acquire.

Last year Columbia failed to complete a bid to acquire the President casino in St. Louis, resulting in their withdrawal of application for a gambling license. Casino Aztar, located in Caruthersville, Missouri, would give them a ready-made spot. The Missouri gaming commission has not disclose the nature of their discussions with Columbia Sussex Corp.
